Arts and culture in Wyong Shire
Wyong
Shire has an active arts and cultural scene with more
than a hundred community
organisations and small businesses engaged in a
range of genres.

Highlights of the cultural life of the shire include:
- The traditional owners’ have lived on the
Central Coast for thousands of years and the area
is one of the richest in Australia for Aboriginal
rock art. Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council
is based in Wyong township.

Norah Head Lighthouse (shown below)

- Toukley Rotary Club's Central Coast Festival of
the Arts

Wyong Shire Council Photographic Competition
- Wyong-based
theatre groups (up to 6 productions per year at the
Memorial Hall, Wyong).
- Central Coast Country Music
Festival at The Entrance (about 25,000 visitors
a year).
- Annual Gathering of the Clans at Toukley
(about 15,000 visitors a year).

- Appointment of a Cultural Planner.
- Feasibility Study
on the establishment of a performing arts centre
in Wyong.
Establishment of a Cultural
Development Grant program.
- Commissioning of Wyong
Community Cultural Centre, (at right) the home
of Wyong Family History Group and Tuggerah-Wyong
Regional of the Fellowship of Australian Writers.
- Community
art projects at The Berkeley Centre, Gravity Youth
Centre and Colongra Bay Hall.
- Continued development
of Wyong Shire Council's Photographic
Competition and Exhibition, with the addition
of workshops with a professional photographer
(shown
above), Participation
in
the competition increases from year to year.

- Support
for Brackets & Jam North, a monthly community
event at Lake Munmorah

Council has a
Cultural
Plan, which acts as a blueprint to guide the
continued development of
arts and culture in the Shire.
