Community Park passes milestone
Lake Haven's Gravity Community Park
has passed another milestone with the opening of an
outdoor amphitheatre.
Delta amphitheatre – named after key sponsor,
Delta Electricity – is a key part of the
park which is being built alongside Council’s
Gravity Youth Centre.
The brainchild of local young
people
keen to show their sense of community spirit, the
park plan also include gardens, trees, pathways and
public
seating.
The amphitheatre features a wooden stage, access bridge,
sandstone piers, three levels of turfed seating, decorative
mosaics and landscaping.
Gravity Coordinator, Andrew
Rowland, said the planting and establishment
of trees and grasses was carried out by young participants
in a landscaping course, using material supplied
by Council.
"As
well as providing a valuable community facility, the
physical construction of this park has been undertaken
by local young people and community members who will
benefit from four landscaping and general construction
training courses.
“These courses have been funded by the NSW Dept
of Education and Training, which identifies opportunities
for working with local communities to meet regional
skills needs.”
Later stages will include community art and public
art projects in the community park and surrounding
precinct.
