Spring Creek Reserve Community Art Plan
Spring Creek Reserve is a large parcel of public land located at the Western end of Blue Haven. It is bounded on the south by Spring Creek and to the north by the Newcastle link, Waterhen Close and Olney Drive and the west by McKellar Blvd.
The site is approx 5ha in size, with the majority of the site consisting of degraded bushland. At the centre of the site was the old Blue Haven neighbourhood centre which has recently been removed.
A landscape master plan has been prepared for the site which incorporates a number of community facilities such as picnic & BBQ shelter, a playground, a half basketball court, seating and fencing, a future viewing deck, walking and all access tracks throughout the site.
The design development of the park is proceeding with a program for engaging the local and indigenous community in some aspects of the park design through community art, bush regeneration works, naming of the park and engaging the wider community in coordinating local events to encourage continuing local ownership of the park.
Workshops are being undertaken with the local people to provide information on the proposal. Further workshops are planned to engage the community in the making of several arts components and bush regeneration activities. The park is to be developed as a destination area with shared paths connecting the park to the wider path system.
The construction for the park is proposed to proceed in stages, the first stage being the construction of the playground and picnic facilities. This stage will be completed by June 2009.
