Approval or Development
Consent
Unsure what type of permission you need from
Council?
This brief explanation outlines the difference between
seeking 'approval' or 'development consent'.
'Approval' means approval of an activity that is
listed in the Table accompanying Section 68 of the
Local Government Act 1993.
This should not be confused with a requirement for
a 'Development Consent' issued in accordance with the
provisions of the Environmental Planning and Assessment
Act 1979.
While certain activities may be exempt from 'approval',
they may still require 'development consent'. If you
are uncertain exactly which affects you, contact Council's
Customer Service Centre on (02) 4350 5555.
