Ourimbah
and Palmdale Planning Strategy
The need for a Planning Study of the Ourimbah and
Palmdale Local Area has been identified for some time.
With assistance from the NSW State Government’s
Planning Reform Funding Program; Council is currently
preparing for the future of the Ourimbah and Palmdale
Local Areas.
What is being done and why?
The preparation of a Planning
Study for the Ourimbah and Palmdale Local
Areas is
timely, as there hasn't, to date, been redevelopment
in the study area. However, a growing population
and recent development plans have provided Council
with the impetus to ensure that improvements
and general
opportunities for redevelopment are coordinated
and integrated.
Key considerations,
particularly the expansion of the Central
Coast campuses; Pacific Highway improvements;
and the establishment of regional level sporting facilities
mean that
the Planning Study generally aims to identify what,
if
any, level
of change can be achieved (the University of Newcastle's
campus at Ourimbah is shown above)
More specifically, the Planning
Study aims to identify opportunities for redevelopment
and urban consolidation, while having regard for
the environmental and physical constraints
within
the Study Area.
The Planning Study will culminate in a Planning Strategy
that will reflect the area’s location and role,
and will present policies and recommendations for future
development in terms of the residential, commercial
and industrial sectors; community services; and social
and cultural infrastructure.
