Wyong Shire libraries
Wyong Shire has five branch libraries (Tuggerah, Lake Haven, Bay Village,
Toukley, The Entrance) and a deposit station at Gwandalan, which is run by volunteers.

The Shire's library service was established in 1959 with 10,000 items in stock. The Collection has grown to over 176,000 items in 2007. This includes books, magazines, music CDs, videos, DVDs and CD-ROMs, as well as books recorded on cassettes/CDs and books in large print.Photo of books to illustrate library section

A free Internet and multimedia service is available at all branches, however bookings are necessary.

Online access to the Library Catalogue is available. Library Members are able to check their loans, reservations, renew items on loan and view reading history from home.

There is a large reference library at Tuggerah, where homework help and other information queries can be answered.

Membership

  • Free to all ratepayers, permanent residents and those who work, shop or attend an educational institution in the Shire.
        
  • Identification showing name and current address is required at the time of application.

Responsibilities

  • Borrowers are responsible for all material borrowed on their card
       
  • The Library must be notified immediately of lost or stolen membership cards (a fee is charged for a replacement card)
       
  • The Library must be reimbursed for items which have been lost, stolen or damaged while on loan to the cardholder.
        
  • Parents of children under 18 years must assume responsibility for their children's use of the Internet while at the library. View the Council's "Conditions for Public Access to the Internet".

Borrowing

  • Library card must be produced each time items are borrowed or renewed
         
  • All items are borrowed for 2 weeks with the option to renew if not reserved for
    another reader.

  • DVDs may be borrowed for 2 weeks with no renewals.
           
  • 15 items per borrower's card with the exception of:
           
    • Research topics - 3 only per family
    • Multimedia CD-ROM - 6 only (adult card)
    • DVDs - 3 only

Returning

  • Items may be returned to any branch of the Wyong Shire Library service. 
       
  • After hours return chutes are available at : Tuggerah, Lake Haven , The Entrance, Toukley and Bay Village branches

Renewing

  • Avoid overdue notices by extending your loans on or before the due date.

  • Items may be renewed if they have not been reserved by another borrower.
        
  • Renewals may be made by telephone, in person or via NetOPAC.
          
  • Items may not be renewed if they are more than 4 weeks overdue

  • Overdue items cannot be renewed via the NetOPAC

Special Services

The Home Library Service caters to about 120 housebound people and to geographically isolated groups and schools. Material selected by library staff is delivered to these people by the Home Library Service Co-ordinator once a fortnight. Bulk deliveries are also made to nursing homes, hostels and retirement villages.
