Waste collection & recycling service

See information about Liquid Trade Waste

A three-bin garbage collection service now operates in Wyong Shire.

Until this year, residents had two rubbish bins – a yellow one for both recycling and household waste and a green one for garden waste.Photo of three waste bins to illustrate the start of new waste service

However, under the current system, households also have a red bin. This is how the new system works:

  • the yellow bin is for recycling only and is collected fortnightly

  • the green bin is still for garden vegetation only and is collected fortnightly

  • the red bin is for general household waste and is collected weekly on your usual garbage collection day.

The divider in the yellow recycling bin is set to be removed.

See additional information or telephone 1300 126 278

What to place in your red garbage bin

  • Food scraps

  • Plastic bags

  • Polystyrene foam

  • Disposable nappies

  • Ceramics and cookware

  • Light globes and pyrex

Fortnightly garden vegetation collection
Residential properties east of the F3 Freeway have a garden vegetation bin (the one with the aqua lid). Your garden vegetation bin will be emptied every fortnight on your normal garbage day.

The vegetation will be composted, so it is most important that only acceptable materials be placed inside:

Garden Vegetation, DO put in Garden Vegetation, DO NOT put in
Grass clippings and garden prunings
Leaves and weeds
Tree loppings and small branches
Timber (unpainted, untreated, no nails)
Flowers
Plastic Bags (don't bag it just bin it)
Food Scraps
Painted or stained timber
Chemically treated timber
Tree slumps
Other household waste

Remember: Bins will not be collected if they have been overfilled or the lids have been left open. When two bins are put out, leave them on the kerb one metre apart.

Put your Garden Vegetation bin out once a fortnight on your normal garbage collection day. If you are unsure of your collection day, telephone 1300 126 278

Bulk kerbside collection
Garbage which is too bulky, too heavy or too big to be collected in the weekly or fortnightly collections will also be collected.

Each household is entitled to six on-call kerbside collections of bulk household waste, or bulk garden vegetation (placing bulk household waste and bulk garden vegetation out at the same time counts as two services.

For bulk household collections, you CAN put it out:
Household furniture
Mattresses

Small car parts

For bulk household collections you CANNOT put out:
