The NSW Government push

The State Government is proposing to introduce a new Central Coast Water Corporation to run our local water supply, sewerage and drainage services.

Currently, Gosford City and Wyong Shire councils jointly manage the bulk supply of water for the region (sourced from our rivers and elsewhere, stored in our dams and treated ready for use) Photo of couple by the water

Each council then separately distributes treated water to our taps and also manages local sewerage and drainage services.

Wyong Shire Council is concerned the proposed new water corporation will adversely impact local ratepayers. Council believes the corporatisation could, in the future, potentially lead to:

  • increased water rates

  • lower service levels

  • Government take-over of our water supply, sewerage and drainage services

  • water privatisation in the longer term

  • dividend payments to the State Government

  • water ownership by an organisation outside the Central Coast

  • Loss of $1 billion worth of community -owned assets

  • loss of local jobs
