Use
SMS to check whether ovals are wet
Wyong
Shire Council has launched a short message service
(SMS) that tells people the status of Council’s
sportsgrounds.
BounceBack
SMS provides information on whether sport
is being played at shire sportsgrounds in regards to
wet weather or other conditions. This is particularly
useful during the current drought and changing weather
conditions.
The services works by the enquirer sending an SMS
containing the unique code of the sportsground they
are to play at and immediately receiving a response
stating if sport is being played there that day.
Sending an SMS to BounceBack SMS will cost a flat
fee of 55 cents, and the information will be updated
by Council staff by 1:00pm, Monday to Friday. Sports
associations have their own systems in place to provide
information on a weekend.
Wyong Shire Council Sports Liaison Officer, Maureen
Wilson, said the purpose of the service is to allow
a quick and easy way of communicating the status of
Council sportsgrounds to schools, sporting clubs, sporting
associations and individuals.
“BounceBack SMS can be used to check if sportsgrounds
are available for any training or sports played through
the week, said Ms Wilson.
“SMS is the way to go these days. Its easy,
quick, inexpensive and you can find out about a Wyong
Shire sportsground from anywhere in the world, all
with one SMS.”
“Council will still run its wet weather hotline
for people that would prefer to telephone through.”
