Stomping up community pride for
Australia Day 2008
As a 14 year old school girl, Patricia Amphlett sang ‘He’s
my blonde-headed stompie wompie real gone surfer boy’.
Now, she’s about to sing the praises of Wyong
Shire.
‘Little Pattie’, as she is known to millions
of Australians, will be the shire’s Ambassador
for Australia Day 2008. She will attend many of the
local events and activities designed to mark the national
day.

Australia Day history
The tradition of having Australia Day as a national
holiday on 26 January is a recent one. Not until 1935
did all the Australian states and territories use that
name to mark that date.
And, it wasn't untill 1994 that Australia Day was
consistently celebrated as a public holiday on that
date.
