National
Aboriginal Indigenous Day of Observance Committee (NAIDOC)
Week
NAIDOC Week 2003 was celebrated across
Wyong Shire from 6 - 13 July.
NAIDOC week is a way of celebrating
and promoting a greater understanding of Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their culture.
Communities across Australia come together to celebrate
the survival of Aboriginal peoples, the continuation
of Aboriginal culture and to also demonstrate the contribution
that Indigenous Australians have made to our nation.
This year's national theme was 'Our Children, Our Future'.
NAIDOC Week activities in Wyong Shire started with a
flag-raising
ceremony on Friday 4 July.
