Use a mobile phone to check oval conditions

Mobile phones and SMS messages are being used to alert sports groups when ovals are affected by wet weather.

An SMS BounceBack service operates for sports fields in Wyong Shire, on Australia’s Central Coast.

For 55 cents, you can SMS a code number for an oval and receive a mobile phone message saying whether the facility is either wet or available for competition or training. The system works like this:

  • See the list of oval codes (PDF - 11 KB) Text version (RTF - 12 KB)

  • SMS an oval code to 199BBSMS (19922767)

Wyong Shire Council will update the sports information at 1pm each weekday.

Read a media statement about the innovative service, see additional information (PDF - 303 KB) or visit BounceBack SMS

Alternatively, Wyong Shire Council has a recorded message service which can be reached by telephoning (02) 4350 5491.
